It’s just a matter of time (A matter of time) I’m just waiting for a certain sign It's just a matter of time (A matter of time) Before you leave him and I can make you mine I’ve seen you look at him with disdain Like all you are to him is some kind of game It doesn’t matter, there were no vows made Nothing to lose, correct your little mistake It’s just a matter of time (A matter of time) I’m just waiting for a certain sign It's just a matter of time (A matter of time) Before you leave him and I can make you mine After all you’ve done, you deserve much more Think of number one, is he worth a war? Let it go, just come on over to the other side I’ll put him out of your mind It’s just a matter of time (A matter of time) I’m just waiting for a certain sign It's just a matter of time (A matter of time) Before you leave him and I can make you mine It’s never too late to change your mind I hope it’s just a matter of time

At thirteen, things were going wrong In the place where I belonged Well, something was missing The pop scene was doing it for me But I just couldn't see through the dark until Fourteen (xiv) Fourteen (xiv) It was you I found that day Shone your light to guide my way at fourteen (xiv) Fourteen (xiv) What I was I didn't know Now I understood the way to go You are the only one that matters at all at fourteen (xiv) Fourteen (xiv) Still so much I need to know But I'm never letting go again

Wonder what I wanted it for To avoid the mess of loneliness for sure What I let myself in for I don't know if it's worth the stress anymore In the middle of the road, I pause Pondering all that I've not done And I feel there's something missing I just can't quite put my finger on it Reeling from what happened before Now everything's being called into question I only know I'm no good for you 'Cause you need something I can't give you So how would you feel if I go? Is it the only thing left to do? If this'll never work now you know I'm quite the opposite of you
4.
Best friends for the longest time Nothing more Yeah, it hurts me to see who you just saw Don’t want you to ask me Who’s that boy? Wanna tell you he’s no one you’d wanna know After everything in our past Let it go Don’t want you to ask me Who’s that boy? Don’t want you to ask me at all What happened with us? Do I twist? Will I bust? I don’t wanna go through it again No no Don’t want you to ask me Who’s that boy? Don’t want you to ask me Who’s that boy? No, don’t ever ask me Oh no no

Lipstick 00:53
I saw lipstick there and I don't mean on your face It seemed a little bit out of place I have to wonder if there's something you're not telling me Oh oh I didn't see you out last night So where did you go? I'm not the most demanding type But I think I want to know Or do I? You're not known for your makeup mishaps So what's going on? When I called, it seemed like you were not alone And in the morning I saw lipstick there And I don't mean on your face It seemed a little bit out of place I have to wonder if there's something you're not telling me I saw lipstick there and I don't mean on your face I need a Sherlock on the case Just tell me now if there's somewhere else you'd really rather be Instead of here with me

You don’t know when to shut up You need to shut it down You’re shooting your mouth all over this town You'd better shut up You’re spreading it around I really didn’t want anyone to find out Oh oh oh Nobody needs to know the way we are Just let ‘em think you’re only a friend I never meant to let it go this far All the chattering has just got to end You don’t know when to shut up You need to shut it down You’re blabbing your mouth all over this town You'd better shut up You’re spreading it around I wasn’t in a hurry for them to find out Know when to shut up I need it shut down Soon it’s gonna be all over this town All over the town All over the town If you don’t want to break up You’d better shut yourself up

Photographic 00:59
I didn't mean to get out of control I didn't mean a thing I might have told you, no I find it hard to let the minutiae go You say you didn't, but I know that you did though I've got a photographic memory I've got a photographic memory There was a moment you said you were mine We'd be together, yeah, forever 'til the end of time But now you tell me that I'm making it up You ought to know my head doesn't let go of this stuff I've got a photographic memory I've got a photographic memory You say I don't know what I'm talking about That it's something you'd never say I know you did and now I'm breaking down You can't promise to stay and then just walk away I've got a photographic memory I've got a photographic memory I know exactly what you said to me

T O T P 00:55 video
There are so many different ways in which to measure your art Does it shift a million units or cut through your heart? Is it from a higher plain or average as can be? On matters like this I must defer to the BBC Top of the Pops, Top of the Pops You haven't really made it 'til you've been on Top of the Pops Top of the Pops, Top of the Pops You haven't really made it 'til you've been on Top of the Pops I'm making records now, I should know If they are any good, gotta go I'll sing 'em in that hallowed studio Oh, but they cancelled it long ago, so what now? Top of the Pops, Top of the Pops You haven't really made it 'til you've been on Top of the Pops Top of the Pops, Top of the Pops You haven't really made it 'til you've been on Top of the Pops Top of the Pops, Top of the Pops You haven't really made it 'til you've been on Top of the Pops Top of the Pops, Top of the Pops You haven't really made it 'til you've been on Top of the Pops You haven't really made it 'til you've been on Top of the Pops

I got a bargain in the mail from a faraway land It wasn't worth it, it's already broken in my hand Yeah, a cheap technology breakdown Another cheap technology breakdown I tried to open up the section where the batteries go And now it's all falling to pieces Well, I should have known I'd have a cheap technology breakdown Another cheap technology breakdown Yeah, you'd think I'd learn my lesson, but I never do Guided by the price and fake 5-star reviews Don't offer any sympathy, this is the life I choose It's why this song doesn't sound hi-fi to you Yeah, a cheap technology breakdown Another cheap technology breakdown I got a cheap technology breakdown, no no no

Estranged 00:58
There you go again Decided you don't want to be a friend 'Cause I don't ever know when to keep my feelings to myself Oh oh oh Here am I again A total idiot until the end I don't know what I've got 'til it's gone It's something I can't help Oh no no We could be out there together in the sun now Instead, I took all we had and then I burned it down Why is it never enough to find the middle ground? Oh no Now you are gone again I had my second chance I don't know when I'm ever gonna learn not to listen only to myself

I can't believe it I'm so humbled (Now I get just what I want) Is this thing on? I mustn't mumble (All along I was the one) Ensure the empire doesn't crumble (Finally, they're really gone) I never thought I'd see this moment (To this I'm holding on) Who'd have thought I'd ever stand here (Take a picture to preserve) Bathing in the warmth of your cheers (It is me you're gonna serve) Holding back the very real tears (Yes, I've got a bloody nerve) I'm feeling all these mixed emotions (I'll kick you to the kerb) Sad to see you go (I won't be) The greatest we have ever, ever known (Yes, that's me) The fuss you're making Well, there's no mistaking how much you all adore me (Well, so you should) So hard to believe (Not really) You would put all of your trust and faith in me (It's lunacy) I'm just some guy I think I'm really gonna cry Out of everyone, you chose me (It was meant to be) Please, no more congratulations (Unsuspecting minions) Let's go get 'em Back to your stations (Now I want my billions) Move along I'm getting impatient now

about

WHAT IS THIS THING?

Although you're looking at the digital version of Top of the Pops, this release is designed first and foremost as a 7" 45rpm album.

However, the 7" release by the Ultra Modern label was a VERY limited edition record and all 50 copies sold out on the day of release (September 1, 2023) over at plastidisc.bandcamp.com
(Some copies were accompanied by an even more limited edition free 5" record, Youth Training Scheme, a collection of four songs previously issued in 2021/2022 on CD/digital releases.)

Despite having a running time of about 11 minutes, Top of the Pops is actually the official debut album by The Photocopies. It follows five compilation albums, all longer than Top of the Pops, but none of them conceived as a true album from the outset.

From its conception, Top of the Pops was intended to contain enough tracks to be considered a legitimate album, but to still fit onto a 45rpm 7" record. Why? Because!

The album spans most of the old-school indie-pop styles explored by The Photocopies on previous releases, plus one or two surprises. If you like concise, melodic indie-pop that doesn't always take itself too seriously, and you don't mind if it sounds pretty lo-fi, enjoy!

about

The Photocopies Michigan

Unapologetically old-school #indiepop in a mid-80s-to-early-90s vein, made without secret plans to fill stadiums (ugh). Think lo-fi #c86 #twee #postpunk #janglepop etc. Originally from London.
